It is the term for excessive hair growth on the human body. This disease can happen to anyone, babies, adults, men, or women. Usually the hair is longer than is expected. You will get one out of 3 different types of hair. There is terminal hair, vellus hair, and there is lanugo hair. Men will grow thick hair covering their faces and eylid. Women will grow thick patches on their bodies.
Causes
Hypertrichosis can be caused by numerous things. This could come genetically, or from certain medical conditions. Some medical influences can be conditions such as: metabolic disorders, cancers, or oral or topical drug treatments. Most of the causes are a mutation on the 8th chromosome. This syndrome can be also caused by an extra gene on the X chromosome. Congenital forms are caused my genetic mutations and are rare. Up to this day, there aren't anymore known causes of this disorder.
Treatment
To this day there aren't any treatments, but it can be managed. You need to treat this disease by reversing the factors to lessen the effects. The easiest thing you can do is hair removal to manage the excessive hair growth. There are two different types of hair removal processes. You can either permanently or temporarily remove the hair. For temporary hair removal, you could get yourself shaved, trimmed, plucked, and waxed. Permanent hair removal uses chemicals or laser technology to get rid of the hair growth. Just like any other treatment, there are some side effects. These side effects clued: hypersensitivity, scarring, and dermatitis.
